CA – Intermediate Level
The CA Intermediate Course, also known as the Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC), is the second level of the Chartered Accountancy program. It builds on the foundational knowledge from the CA Foundation Course and prepares students for advanced topics in accounting, finance, and business.
Eligibility
To register for the CA Intermediate Course, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Standard Route
Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination from a recognized board and either the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) or the CA Foundation Course.
Direct Entry Route
Graduates and postgraduates in Commerce with at least 55% can register directly for the Intermediate Course without taking the CA Foundation or CPT. Non-Commerce graduates and postgraduates can enroll directly if they have secured a minimum of 60%.
Equivalent Qualifications
Students who have cleared the Intermediate level from the Institute of Cost Accountants of India or the Institute of Company Secretaries of India can also register directly for the Intermediate Course without an entrance exam.

The course consists of two groups:
Group I
- Accounting
- Corporate Laws
- Cost and Management Accounting
- Taxation (Direct and Indirect)
Group II
- Advanced Accounting
- Auditing and Assurance
- Information Technology and Strategic Management
- Financial Management and Economics for Finance
Examination
The Intermediate exams are held thrice a year, in the month of January, May, and September. Candidates can choose to take both groups together or one group at a time.
Practical Training
ICITSS (Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills) is to be completed before the commencement of practical training. After passing the Intermediate level, candidates must complete a 2-year practical training period under a registered Chartered Accountant to gain essential real-world experience. The duration of industrial training is for a period of 9 months to 12 months and is permitted during the last part of 2 years of practical training.
Study Period
Candidates registering through the Foundation route must complete a minimum study period of 8 months before they can take the Intermediate exams.
Provisional Registration
Final-year students can provisionally register for the Intermediate Course but can only start practical training after providing proof of completing their degree with the required percentage. During this provisional period, students can complete the Information Technology Training (ITT) and Orientation Programme (OP). If they do not provide proof of graduation, their registration will be cancelled, and fees will not be refunded.
Training Requirements
- ITT and OP must be completed before starting practical training for those entering through the direct route.
- To sit for the Intermediate examination, candidates must complete nine months of practical training.
- Students who register directly after clearing the Intermediate level from relevant institutes must also complete an 8-month study period before appearing for the exams.
