The 46th southern India regional conference of company secretaries held on the 13th and 14th of August, 2022. The conference was organised by ICSI, Hyderabad chapter. The theme of the conference is whether governance is professional to be or not to be. The cost of the entrance is 3800 for the member, 3300 for corporate members, 2000 for the students and 4000 for the non-members. The two-day conference was inaugurated by her Excellency Telangana governor Dr TamilisaiSundararajan. The blog is about the speech presented at the conference by eminent personalities. The statements from the experts say that the company secretaryship is a career that enhances the value of the organisation. The Board of directors follow corporate governance and understands the environmental factors. Company secretaries assist the board of directors in the smooth functioning and long-term success of the business.
Speech of Tamilisaisowndarajan:
The Chief Guest honourable governor of Telangana and Puducherry said that higher authorities spend more time with secretaries than families. She further said it is the good deeds at previous birth that offers a good secretary to a business or businessman. She unleashed her personal stories about the role of a secretary. She said that one needs to adjust to the situations and should not curse things or people around them. She mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a role model for setting challenging goals. He dreamed of making India a 5 trillion dollar economy. In India, with 70 years of Independence, it is possible to think and execute challenging goals.
Speech of keynote speaker SrimanSatyagaura Chandra DasaSwamiji, president, Hare Krishna movement:
The president of the Hare Krishna movement appreciated the motto of ICSI. The meaning of the motto “Satyam vada and dharmamchara” is to act righteously and speak the truth. The motto is obtained from the religious sayings of Hinduism. He spoke about the guru-shishya relationship and the beauty of speaking a language without creating anxiety. He says six parameters of good governance. They are as follows: anubhnadham, ksayam, himsam, anapeksam, paurusam and mohat. The meaning of these six Sanskrit words are as follows: the first thing is about thinking about future bonding of action, the second one is thinking about the destruction from the action, the third one is himsam that creates distress to others, anapeksham is thinking about the disregard, paurusam is thinking about the management, mohat is thinking about the wrong illusions. So, one should think in multiple dimensions to complete a task successfully. Finally, he said that it is important to preach what we practice and not the things that we do not practice. Spreading the practical experience of a company secretary helps build a powerful profession.
Speech of DevendraV.Deshpande, national president speech:
Devendra V. Deshpande said that the theme of the current year for the students is company secretaries are the preferred profession. He said that this is the largest gathering for the company secretaries post covid. He said that the company secretaries are the arbitrators between the board and other members. They form the policies and govern the functions. He said that the ICSI institute is setting up an arbitration institute in the ICSI centre of excellence in Hyderabad. He said ICSI is collaborating with the ministry of law and justice to promote arbitration services in India. ICSI has plans to set up a meditation centre for the members. He said that currently, the institute houses 69000 members and three lakh, students. Every year, ICSI conduct a regional conference regarding the trends and policies of the corporate sector. Sekhar Babu, the chairman mentioned a few points about the importance of the company secretary profession.

The different events of ICSI in August are as follows: Independence Day celebration at Indore chapter, Kanpur chapter, Kolkata chapter and Agra chapter. One-day orientation program from Vadodara and Bangalore chapter on August 17. ICSI Pune Chapter organises the golden Jubilee conference. Classroom teaching on August 20 for executive modules one and two.One-day orientation program for CS executive students with the Pune chapter on August 20. Vadodara chapter ICSI organises a student conference on August 20.
Scope of company secretaries in future:
- The functions of the company secretary as per the company’s activity are to report to the board, check the secretarial standards, guide the directors, and assist with good corporate governance.
- Listed companies with 50 crores share capital and 250 crores of the turnover need to submit the secretarial audit report.
- Company secretaries work as secretarial auditors, pre-certification for the e-forms, report the fraud, administrators, liquidators, assistant to liquidators, and handle tribunal process and penalties.
- The other areas of company secretaries are corporate restructuring, secretarial audit, foreign collaboration and JV, financial management, arbitration and conciliation, project planning, due diligence, capital market and investor relations, corporate advisory services, SEBI Act services, and Exim policy consultancy.
- Company secretaries can work for secretarial services, corporate laws advisory, financial services and management services.
- The different government departments from mining, agriculture, metals, industrial investment, and electrical engineering appoint company secretaries to manage relationship rules, human resources, and financial transactions.
